I use the MP-7 to control AU-instruments and create sequences of midi data into Logic. However, for some reason i haven't been able to get Logic and the MP7 to sync, it would seem like Logic doesn't send out the play or stop messages .. "external start/stop" is on in the MP7. i'm using an swissonic usb 1x1 midi port , a macbook pro and duet as my soundcard..

USING 31 TRACKS (plus 15 knob automatization individual tracks) inside a pattern....

For being able to run 31 tracks, no matter the MIDI destination, you must use the MULTI A or MULTI B functions.

You can play the 31 tracks at the same time (watch out for poly, dude) but you won't be able to mute/unmute 16 of them. Mutes for tracks store on Multi A must be recorded as a knob tweak.

Record the 16 tracks that later will be send with the MultiA or MultiB track .

Glad to see this forum announced on Future Producers. I'm new to the Command Station (XL-7) and new to synths & drum machines in general.

I'm finding the "how to" of each machine has been getting in the way of just going out & making music, so I'm looking to forums like these to get the basic learning I need down so I can express myself. Electronic music, old school electro, etc. are big influences. Art of Noise, Kraftwerk, Afrika Bambaataa would be key influences. ...

I'm glad to have found this forum. The Yahoo user group looks like it's been spammed to death. I got a Command Station XL two days ago. My first impression was horror at the cheesy presets. After a read iof the manual and attempting to programme sounds and seqs myself, I'm more than happy. The seq is very musical and quick to get good results: it almost feels like cheating. I uploaded OS 2.00 no probs. Anyway, many thanks for this forum!!
hi,

I'm a brit dividing my time between the island and Germany. Have worked in computer games, run a record label but mainly earn my dollar by writing software. I'm just playing with the PX-7. My motivation was getting completely sick of using computer based sequencing. After 15 years of updates, unfixed bugs and incompatibilties enough was enough! I'm also using the yamaha RS7000 but so far the Emu seems to be winning. Quite blown away by the sounds and the quantize seems to be very musical. ...

a) TIPS FOR PROGRAMMING CORDS ON THE EMU COMMAND STATION:

One of the most interesting features on the EMU romplers on the patch edit section, is the cords function. Cords function allows you to link certain patch parameters, to create interesting combinations, and control those linkswith the programmable knobs. I present the most simple ideas trying to be creative with the patch cord programming, these are just a few of several routes I tried to explore...others are a headache to write here ...

Greetings, folks. I'm a long-time Command Station user, now on my tenth (!!!) Command Station, which will probably be a keeper. There's something about the Command Station models that keeps me coming back to them - the power of the sequencer, the quick adjustments of the knobs, the easy routing of MIDI into and out of the unit. I've used several of the Roland MC series (MC-303, MC-505, MC-808), the newer Korg Electribes (EMX, ESX), and the Akai MPC-1000 during the past few years and none of them ...

Tips for creating natural patterns on the Command Station or other sequencers:

Sometimes, patterns created throught step-by-rec method, results in non-human, boring or repetitive sequences. Recording music with exact perfect timing gives an unnatural feeling to the music, because 100% accuracy isn't normal. When a human foot hits a kick drum, it's leading the tempo of the song, but it has diminute, small innacuracies on the timing. I'm unable to repeat that kick at the exact moment each ...

I used to read KEYBOARD magazine back in the 80s and drooled over all the cool gear that I couldn't get my hands on at the time. Now thanks to being a little more solvant (only a little and the advent of E-Bay I've been able to pick up an XL-1, and a ESI-32 (still in transit). I was so impressed by the XL-1 that I want to get more E-Mu modules particulary the XL-7 and a Proteus 2000 not to mention additonal ROMs..

The Emulator III was E-mu's biggest classic "Digital Sound Production System". Also called the "EIII", it was E-mu's biggest and most professional sampler-synthesizer prior to the 1990's. It was the first sampler to offer 16-bit CD-quality specs with stereo or mono sampling at 44.1kHz or 33kHz. RAM memory is 4 MB expandable to 8 MB. There are extensive and modern sample editing features (from looping to rate conversions). The on-board 16-track sequencer and arpeggiator ...

An affordable classic early eighties sampler/workstation synthesizer. It's a sampler that sounds like an analog synth because it has analog filters! It samples at a low 8-bits (up to 17.6 seconds) so it's got that lo-fi sound which is great for some types of electronic music. Especially nice is its ability to create warm analog-ish pads and sounds. It uses those giant 5" floppy disks for storage. Also on-board is a useful 8-track sequencer. It can be hooked up to a Mac for easier editing ...

The Emulator is a very old and classic keyboard sampler from E-mu that rocked the world in 1980 as it was truly the first affordable compact modern sampler. After E-mu flopped with its grossly expensive Audity analog polysynth, they sought to design a sampler, loosely inspired by the Fairlight CMI but much more affordable. The Emulator I debuted in 1981 with a price taag of $10,000! Still pretty expensive, but E-mu reduced its price to $8,000 a year later.

The Emax is a classic sampler workstation from E-mu. It is sort of a next generation Emulator II, it's not as good as an Emulator III but it's more powerful than previous EII's. The Emax can be found in several forms: the Emax, the Emax Rack, the Emax HD (built-in 20MB hard disk, pictured above), the Emax HD Rack (pictured below) and the Emax SE (Synthesis Enhanced) with a built-in synthesizer section. The Emax's editing system will be familiar to users of E-mu's excellent ESI series.
